At Berwick Smile Dental Care we pride ourselves on staying on the cutting edge of dental technology.
We thoroughly research every new technology we bring into our office and we only offer the highest quality and most advanced equipment available. Not only do our patients appreciate the thought and effort that goes into adopting new dental technologies, but they also reap the benefits by having more thorough yet less invasive treatments that produce better results and so much more comfort.
Take a look at how technological advancements have changed virtually every facet of everyday life — we’ve come to expect convenience and precision from modern scientific developments. The same goes for dentistry.
A lot of the high-tech materials we use and minimally invasive treatments we provide you just don’t find in any dental office. We offer a full range of advanced technology:
CEREC is a high-tech system which allows us to design, fabricate and fit a new crown, veneer, onlay or inlay in a single visit. After we have prepared your tooth for the procedure, we take a digital image using the CEREC optical scanning device, avoiding the need for impression materials. Patients love the CEREC system because it’s quick, easy and comfortable, and they never have to gag again.
The image is then used to create a 3D prototype restoration. Once this is designed we then send it to our onsite milling machine. The restoration is milled from a single ceramic block, before being stained, glazed, polished and fitted onto your tooth. This procedure takes anything from then minutes upto a few hours, depending on the complexity of your tooth and the restoration required.
We strongly believe in the benefits of using high quality, digital photography in our diagnosis and treatment process. We take pictures at all points of your treatment process. While you might not like the photos at the beginning, we are sure you will at the end, so please don’t be embarrassed and put a wide smile on for us!
We use a Canon DSLR camera, which allow us to see into those hard to reach places and take some images that will help us progress and document your treatment as well.
To arrive any moment!
We always screen for the symptoms of oral cancer and have been able to detect a lesion early on several occasions. To provide an even better chance of spotting oral cancer early, we will soon add the VELscope screening system to our technology status. The VELscope is a revolutionary hand-held device, which provides a quick, pain-free and non-invasive method of detecting abnormalities in the soft tissue of the mouth which are not visible to the naked eye.
Using technology called Tissue Fluorescence Visualisation, the VELscope detects abnormal tissue in the mouth in just a few minutes. All that happens is that our dentist Indra will shine a blue light into your mouth, which excites the tissues before using a special viewing instrument to see the results. Normal tissue provides a green fluorescent pattern, while abnormal tissue shows up as dark areas.
This examination is recommended for ALL patients over the age of 18, since it allows us to catch pre-cancerous lesions before they become cancerous and cause catastrophic damage to the patient.
Magnification plays an important role in being able to expand our vision to help enhance our work and provide better, longer lasting and more aesthetic results. High power magnification with LOUPES enable us to provide the best results we can for you.
For larger work we even more have to accurately treatment plan what we do to prevent surprises during treatment and make sure we create smiles with long-term stability. Here for we make models of your teeth and have these waxed up with the treatment outcome that we are looking for. Having your smile rejuvenated is a big decision but it’s a lot easier when you can see how your new smile will look.
Panoramic X-rays (OPT)
This machine takes digital X-ray images to provide a panoramic view of your teeth and mouth. Panoramic X-rays allow our dentist Indra to get a complete and accurate view of your entire mouth, which is essential for planning precise dental treatments. Taking a panoramic radiograph is significantly more convenient than taking multiple X-rays using the old “bite-and-hold” technology and exposes patients to much less radiation. No need to get referred to hospital and sit and wait, we can do it all conveniently for you in-house.
At Berwick Smile Dental Care we only use digital radiography, which exposes our patients to 80% less radiation than with “wet films’’. The digital images appear almost instantly on the screen and can be e-mailed and archived as necessary. In addition to the reduced radiation and increased patient comfort, the resulting images are also clearer and allow the dentist to detect smaller lesions that may not be visible on film. It is also very useful for patient education as it is much easier to show our patients what areas of their mouth need addressing.
Medivision Patient Education Animations
The Medivision patient education system allows you to quickly understand procedures, giving you the required knowledge to make informed decisions about your treatment options. It covers a wide range of dental topics, from restorative to cosmetic, and uses simple and easy-to-understand videos. It even has the feature of emailing what we have shown you.
We are not only able to restore what comes on top of the implant (crown, bridge, denture) like most practices, but our dentist Indra is also able to place implants in-house for our patients. This gives the convenience of the restoration being done by the person who also placed the base for it making the overall procedure more predicatable while saving on quite some travelling time compared to being referred to one of the bigger cities.
Indra is trained in different implant systems and can also provide sinus lifting and/or bone grafting procedures if in the patient’s best interest.
The ultrasonic scaler is a specialised teeth cleaning device that is used during hygiene appointments. The ultrasonic scaler moves extremely fast in a back-and-forth motion, quickly and painlessly blasting away debris and bacteria from the teeth and gums. Studies have shown that ultrasonic scalers are gentler to teeth than hand instruments, which results in more comfortable appointments for patients, as well as more predictable results after treatment.
Modern Root canal treatments
Rotary endodontic handpieces have become the modern method of performing endodontic procedures, such as root canal therapy. Our dentist uses an electric handpiece because that makes treatment procedures faster and therefor more comfortable. We also use an electronic length measuring device to accurately measure where the end of the root is to provide the most perfectly achievable seal.
Clear braces are the future of orthodontic treatment. Here at Berwick Smile Dental Care we provide different systems to suit everybody’s personal preference and budget. From a series of invisible (clear) plastic aligners that fit comfortably over your teeth to more conventional (but white) wire-and bracket dental braces. All are designed to move your teeth gradually into the desired position. Clear braces have now become a favourite choice for orthodontic treatment.
To top it off, our whole office is computerized — from the little videos we can show you that explain treatments in easy to follow detail, to our chairside computers that quickly and accurately store and retrieve your records, to the x-rays we can easily share with other professionals if needed.
In the planning for the not too far away future:
