Indra’s blog: About Baths and Growth

In my early dentist years, I was lucky to be working in the Netherlands in a very forward thinking and modern dental clinic. My boss was an amazing mentor and I don’t know how different my dentistry would have been if I had not started my journey learning from him. He was one of the first dentists to do facial aesthetics, which was very uncommon in those days. Above all, teaching me his surgical and dental implant skills gave me the confidence and skill set I needed to want to keep learning as a dentist, to keep growing and make me fly.
In those days, one of the things I chuckle at most is when I would come into the practice in the morning and somebody would whisper to me, Just to warn you, he has been laying in the bath last night. What that meant was, that whenever he was laying in bath his mind would roam freely. He already thought quicker than most people could keep up with, but when he had time to ponder he would come back with some amazing ideas and some not so great ideas. It would mean a ramble of all the things that needed doing, needed different or could be better. Not everything came to fruition, but it always meant growth.
It is that mindset of growth as a dentist and in my personal development that I still practice today. For me it’s not a bath, but it could just be some time writing my blogs on a plane or those days that my management team and I have with our dental business coach. We learn, we grow, we improve… continuously.

Everybody needs a place or a space where they can clear their mind, have some time to think and fill themselves up with possibilities. I urge you to find yours…
